Daily DeviationGiven 2009-04-22last rain drop by =mintyy is an adorable little emoticon. The shading of both the emote and the leaf is of excellent standard and the expression chosen enhances the animation. The way the drop rolls off the leaf is a brilliant touch making this an emoticon well worth watching several times over. The animation of the raindrop is the biggest improvement that could be made here. The overall animation seems slow and could include a few more frames, but most of all the movement feels shaky, like they weren't quite sure how they were going to do this when they started. The last couple of frames also seem unnatural, and the raindrop appears to be disappearing. Plus, it is indistinguishable whether the artist was trying to get the raindrop to slide down the emote's face or not.
Although I don't find the idea extremely original, I've never seen an emote with such subject matter. I have seen sketches of people or animals watching a raindrop fall off of an umbrella or a flower, but a clover adds a bit more unique touch to the emote. The animating technique the artist used isn't all that advanced, but the shading of the clover and emote show a sort of career in pixel making, and demonstrate several years of practice in the profession.
Overall, I give this emote a 7.5 out of 10. The colors, shading, and overall placement of the pixels are great, but the animation of the raindrop could use a little more research and depth. Plus, even though the emote looks sad, the overall product creates a happy, lighter feeling in the observer. I've worked with pixels before, and it's tedious work, but I believe a little more effort could have gone into the animation. Still, you've got to admit, the colors and shading are great!
However, the rest of the animation's great, especially how it rolls off the face. (That might benefit from being a teeny bit faster as well, though.)
I love the use of a 4-leafed clover--pretty unusual and interesting. I think the clover might benefit from a little more contrast, but it's still pretty nice.
Over all, great job and congrats on the DD.
